Lamborghini Urus – The Biggest of Bulls
TÊTE-À-TÊTE WITH A SURPRISING GUEST
When I arrived to the parking lot at Forza Italia’s annual meeting all spots were taken. I took another turn and arrived next to a yellow beast… or should I just say a yellow bull? I have seen the Urus a few times, but mostly in motion and I can hardly remember a time standing next to it. Approaching it from my relatively low Alfa Romeo 1750 GTV its scale was… slightly overwhelming and awe-inspiring. It is not the Lamborghini of your childhood dreams, unless you were a LM002 fan but let’s be honest – these ones need to grow on you.
Thanks to Lamborghini Warsaw all the visitors of the Sunday event could admire the SUV born in Sant’Agata. Painted in Giallo Inti and set on 23” Taigete rims it looked dominant when parked right in front of the Rozalin Palace. Piotr from Fotopatologia and I had a chance of a short tête-à-tête with it the day before. Unfortunately, due to the circumstances it was just slow rolling through the narrow paths of the surrounding park, but at least it let us examine the body lines and overall feeling of the car.
Highly aerodynamic lines covering the twin-turbo, 650HP strong V8 engine earned Urus the Super SUV badge at Lamborghini. Rightfully!
NOT YOUR EVERYDAY SUV
Lamborghini is clear on it and the wide-known SUV abbreviation simply does not do justice to the car here. Urus is therefore called the first Super Sport Utility Vehicle. With its four-litre, twin-turbo V8 engine generating 650 horsepower and highly aerodynamic lines drafted by Centro Stile and Mitja Borkert it is hard to disagree. At the same time, I have reached a breathtaking top speed of exactly… twelve kilometres per hour, therefore I am yet to make my own opinion on the handling of the car.
What I can confirm for sure though is the quality of the interior. The designers did great job also inside this luxury vehicle and it can be sensed whenever seated. Materials, expectedly, are of very high quality but what really tips the scale are small details. I kept on finding these everywhere, from great feeling of the metal gear paddles to tiny Bang & Olufsen tweeters appearing from the dashboard whenever you start the car. Yellow-and-black seats with embroidered logos are not something to miss either. Really tasteful touches!
MY APPETITE HAS JUST GOTTEN WHETTED
An hour or so is simply not enough to form constructive conclusions on anything, not to mention a state-of-the-art automobile. What my round-the-clock with the Urus managed to do though is that it left me craving for more… and I would love to take the Urus for a longer spin. All that despite my rather neutral feeling to modern cars, especially SUVs. Who knows? Maybe this is the one to change my mind!?
